Book Club πŸ“š

The Book Club is one of the most beloved activities in the Refactoring Community.

Here is how it works:

  • πŸ—³οΈ Choose β€” every two months we decide on a book to read about engineering / management.

  • πŸ‘“ Read β€” during the period, we read it by ourselves and comment on it in threads.

  • πŸ” Review β€” at the end of the period, we get together in a live call to discuss what we liked and disliked.

  • πŸ“¬ Publish β€” after a couple of weeks I publish a summary + review of the book on the newsletter, powered by community discussions.

Other than being a success for the community, the book club has also been incredible for me from a personal standpoint. In fact, it pushes me to read more and better:

  • βž• Read more β€” I have now this schedule of 1 book every two months, which is more than I ever managed to read by myself.

  • βž• Read better β€” I read more intentionally because I know I will have to discuss the book with smart friends, and the discussion itself improves my understanding.

From a community standpoint, then, it improves our bonding and makes me know members better.

Finally, books make for great newsletter editions: if you don’t have time to read the full book, you can just read the summary + review and it’s a good substitute.

Here are the reviews of the books we have read so far πŸ‘‡

The book club is exclusive to Refactoring community members. You can join the 600+ engineers and managers in the community by getting the full Refactoring plan πŸ‘‡
