1) 🔧 Stephanie’s Journey into Tech (02:54)

Stephanie began her career not with a CS degree, but with a background in communication studies, paired with a minor in digital humanities.

Her entry into the tech world was through a sales engineer role at Oracle. This position combined business & technical skills, laying the foundations for her future pivot into cloud tech.

“We started carrying a camera around and created fun, engaging technical videos. I did it for fun, and then someone said, ‘Hey, what you’re doing is valuable — we need more people who know how to communicate to engineers.’”

At Oracle, Stephanie was drawn to cloud computing, which strategically positioned her to join Google, where she was recruited to boost their cloud marketing efforts.

Her unique blend of communications + technical skills led her to an unconventional but highly impactful path within Google.

2) 🌐 Building Google Cloud's DevRel (06:19)

Stephanie's communication role at Google didn’t start in the spotlight.

It began as a side gig, where she created engaging videos for the Google Cloud YouTube channel. Stephanie's initiative proved its value and eventually created the space for developer relations (DevRel) within Google Cloud.

“We started carrying a camera around and created fun, engaging technical videos. I did it for fun, and then someone said, ‘Hey, what you’re doing is valuable — we need more people who know how to communicate to engineers.’”
