Section 3, EMs, EDs, and even CTOs going back to coding...
Wow, this is not the flex they seem to think it is. Would they be boasting about spending hours per workday on another hobby like model train sets?
Unless they're in 1-9 person startups they have profoundly misunderstood their requirement and duty to scale beyond their individual output. If they want to code, be an IC. Managers need to focus on the things that only they can do, rather than the things that anyone on their team can do.
Empathy and understanding of what happens at the coal face are probably the strongest arguments you could have made for this. :)
And yes, I agree. Just as I urge companies to send the C-suite to drive the cars or work on the factory, I urge companies to send all Eng management up to and including CTOs to the DX coal face...
... on a similar cadence, i.e. no more than one day per quarter or one week per year. For all the same reasons.

Hey Joe!
I agree managers need to focus on the things only they can do, but I think it's more nuanced than this.
Many managers end up completely detached from how their team works, and spending some (little?) time coding can help a lot.
The benefit here is not throughput, but rather empathy and staying in touch with what the DX and the whole process looks like.
Done with moderation this looks good to me and would love to see more of it!

Thank you so much for sharing β€οΈ The Adoption Path is really good to have in all AI First companies.
